Program Background
Love Your Commute is a new City of Roanoke initiative that helps employees make their daily commute easier, healthier, and more sustainable.
The program encourages everyone to reduce drive-alone trips by choosing alternatives like bus transit, biking, walking, or carpooling.
By participating, you’ll:
- Save money on gas and parking
- Stay active and healthy
- Help reduce traffic and emissions in our community
This program is open to all City of Roanoke employees. More details on program benefits and how to participate will be shared soon!
Love Your Commute supports the City’s sustainability goals by:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Improving employee health and well-being
- Lowering commuting costs for staff
- Promoting awareness of commuter tax benefits

📝Love Your Commute Employee Survey
Thank you to all employees that participated in the "Love your Commute Survey". We collected a total of 226 responses. Here are some highlights:
- Most engaged depatments Social Services and Public Works
- While most of you commute alone in your cars, there is a lot of interest in forming carpools with co-workers (37%), riding a bike (29%) and trying trasnit (23%) to work
- Time off, Gift Cards and Flexible Work Hours are the most deisre incetive to try a new mode of transporation to work
- Employees that live in Bedford and Roanoke County want to Vanpool!
